Chemical Peel

Read about our specialty peels from NeoStrata and SkinMedicaŽ

What is a chemical peel?

Your skin's texture can be smoothed and refined by chemically removing
its damaged outer layers. Chemical peels can provide benefits to people
with wrinkles, fine lines, blemishes and uneven skin pigmentation.
Chemical peels are non-surgical.  Your physician at A Beautiful You can
help you determine the appropriate level of treatment.

What happens during a chemical peel?

Alphahydroxy (AHA) Treatments:  A Beautiful You uses hydroxy
acid products from SkinMedicaŠ and NeoStrata.  The AHA solution will
be applied by your doctor to provider, a process that usually takes no more
than ten minutes.  Additional treatments may be needed to achieve
the desired goal.  AHA peels are milder than those involving other
ingredients.  In some cases, an AHA home treatment regimen may
be sufficient.  This may consist of applying an AHA based face wash
or cream once or twice a day.  Retin-A or a bleaching agent may also
be used in at home treatments.

Jessner's Peels:  This medium-depth peel is designed to treat skin
damage that hydroxy acids alone cannot repair.   Jessner's solution is
made from salicylic acid (a beta hydroxy acid), lactic acid (an alpha hydroxy
acid) and resorcinol.  A glycolic cleanser will be used to remove oils
and old skin layers.  Then, the Jessner's solution will be applied to your
face.  You may feel a mild burning sensation as the solution penetrates
your skin.  The acid will then be neutralized and removed with cool water.

Am I a Candidate for a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels are among the most common cosmetic skin procedures.
They typically achieve good results, but there are a few risks.  They may
cause redness, irritation and stinging. These symptoms will resolve after
the skin adjusts to the treatment.  Talk with our highly trained staff at
