Laser Hair Removal What is laser hair removal? The Palomar Pulsed Light system emits pulses of concentrated light which are directed onto the skin and absorbed by the hair follicles. Pulsed light systems are similar to lasers, but with a larger, smooth beam, and a long pulse for safe, fast and comfortable treatment. How is pulsed light hair removal performed? First, the treatment area should be shaved. Next, the pulsed handpiece is placed on the area to be treated. The handpiece emits a beam of intense pulsed light, which is absorbed by the hair follicles and converted to heat. The heat then disables the hair follicle. Will the treatments hurt? Our palomar pulsed light system uses a unique long pulsewidth that delivers energy to the skin over a relatively long period of time. This makes the pulsed light system safer and more comfortable. You may experience a feeling similar to that of a rubber band being snapped on the skin, but most people do not report this sensation as painful. How many treatments will I need? The number of treatments varies depending on the person, the body part being treated, and how much of the hair is in active phase growing. Because the treatments only target the hair that is actively growing, multiple treatments are required for permanent hair reduction. We will be able to give you a better assessment after your initial free consultation.
